Our 6 Days Lemosho Route
destinations in TanzaniaThis route is best for those who want to avoid crowds and beginners who want to avoid many steep sections. The route does not offer climb high and sleep low option but acclimatization can be done in the 6 days itinerary.
Rongai route is the only route that approaches the mountain from the north near the Kenyan border; it’s a quiet route and offers amazing scenery. The route can be done in six days but we advise that it gets done in seven days so as to get an acclimatization day in mawenzi tarn camp. It is very crucial to acclimatize to increase chances to reach summit.
The northern side of the mountain receives very little rainfall so climbers are likely to get a clearer view of the mountaintop along the path. Climbing Kilimanjaro is overall not easy but rongai route is considered one of the more accessible trails to the mountain.

Begin your adventure as we depart from Moshi and head to the gate of Kilimanjaro National Park. After completing park formalities, we embark on a trek through lush rainforests, witnessing the diverse flora and fauna along the way. Today's hike takes us to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) camp(3,773 feet), where we'll spend the night, surrounded by the enchanting beauty of the rainforest.
Leaving the rainforest behind, we continue our ascent towards the Shira Plateau. The trail gradually opens up to stunning vistas of the moorland zone, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Our camp for the night is at Shira 2(2,297 feet), where we'll rest and acclimatize while marveling at the vastness of the mountain.
Today, we traverse the dramatic landscape of the Lava Tower formation, reaching an altitude of around (15,092 feet). This provides an excellent opportunity for acclimatization as we descend to Barranco camp at around (12,795 feet). The Barranco Wall, a challenging yet thrilling section of the trek, awaits us, offering an exhilarating climb before reaching our campsite (Barranco Camp).
The day begins with a steep ascent up the Barranco Wall, where breathtaking views of the surrounding glaciers and valleys await us. From there, we continue our climb through alpine desert landscapes, arriving at the Barafu campsite (Gain - 2,100 feet). Here, we'll prepare ourselves for the final push to the summit and rest early to ensure we are well-rested for the challenging day ahead.
Today marks the summit day, where we embark on an early morning start to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). The climb is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding as you witness the breathtaking sunrise from the summit. After celebrating this remarkable achievement, we descend to Mweka Camp, situated at approx 10,171 feet, where we'll spend the night.
Our final day on the mountain involves a descent through the lush rainforest. As we make our way to the Mweka Gate, we'll enjoy the rich biodiversity and descending views of the landscape. At the gate, we bid farewell to our guides and porters before heading back to Moshi, where a warm shower and celebration of our successful summit await.
