The marangu is the first and oldest route to Kilimanjaro, the route is famously known as the Coca-Cola route; a lot of people claim it is the easiest but that may not be accurate as it does not provide enough time for acclimatization especially for 5 days tour. The route approaches the mountain from south east and offers hut accommodation instead of camps.
The marangu route used to be the most popular route but not anymore, lately machame route has been on the top. Although the route has very few steeps which makes climbing easy, its direct approach to the mountain makes its summit success low compared with those of other routes.
Its scenery profile is not very popular as you ascend and descend on the same path, but still the view is incredible as you pass through rainforest, moorland, high altitude desert and arctic summit habitats
The route can be achieved with the right preparation and a good supportive team while hiking; the trail can be crowded so if you are looking for some privacy it may not be your top option. The marangu route can be completed in five days although we highly recommend the six days itinerary, it should be noted that climbing Kilimanjaro is not a race, and it is important to give your body chance to acclimatize well.
After arrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will meet your guide excitedly waiting for you with a smile; relax and enjoy your drive as you’re transferred to the hotel in Moshi. Get some rest as you prepare yourself for an amazing adventure of7 days machame route Kilimanjaro climbing.
Accommodation: Moshi TownOn the first day we will depart from your hotel and after briefing we drive for 45 minutes to marangu gate, all the formalities will be handled and our hiking to Kilimanjaro will begin passing through the magnificent tropical rain forest which will lead us to mandara hut.
After breakfast we keep trekking through the rainforest and make our way to moorlands. Along the path the incredible view of kibo and mawenzi can be spotted, giant lobelias and groundsels are common here too. After hiking for six/seven hours we will make a stop at horombo hut, where dinner and overnight will be offered
This is a special day for acclimatization; there will an option of a short hike to mawenzi ridge and back to horombo hut. This is the strategy of climbing high and sleeping low which helps the body to acclimatize well.
After breakfast we traverse through the saddle of Kilimanjaro located between kibo and mawenzi. We trek to kibo hut where an early dinner and overnight will be offered, our hike to summit will start at 02:00am
Elevation: 12,205ft to 15,430ft
Just like day three, this day’s trek consists of two parts. We will have a very early rise at 2:00am and after having hot tea and snacks we’ll start the strenuous hike to uhuru peak. After hiking on the steep and snowy trail up to Gilman’s point we will head to uhuru peak. Upon arrival, you will be able to take some pictures and after that begin your descent to kibo hut where lunch will be offered, and thereafter head to horombo for dinner and a well-deserved night rest
Kibo Hut to Uhuru PeakToday will be our last day on the mountain as we descend through the moorland area to mandara hut, we will keep descending through the thick green forest to marangu gate where we will meet a vehicle which will take you back to your hotel in Moshi.
